Fresh Pond - Entry 01

It all begins with an idea.

Okay, that was the placeholder text in the blog template, but it feels fitting for my first entry—so I’m keeping it.

In the summer of 2020 we got a dog. It took a while to figure out walking him, literally. Both on and off leash. He’s got a lot of beagle in him and his busy nose makes him track any and every scent. And he’s strong, so he yanks me all over the place.

At around age 3, so about two years ago, he got (a bit) better and I started taking him around Fresh Pond, letting him off leash at times. After a while we got into a bit of a routine and I was able to start looking around instead of constantly worrying about the dog. His name is Charlie, by the way.

I began noticing the fauna - the different plants and all the changes they go through over the four seasons. After all, I had to walk Charlie rain or shine, so we were there regularly.

I started documenting it. Just with my phone. A Samsung Galaxy S21. Not something a proper photographer would use, I don’t think. But it is what I had.

And that’s how I started making a habit of noticing the radical transformations a lot of the plants around Fresh Pond continuosly go through.
